County Executive announces plans for CARES funding
County Executive Matt Meyer announced initial plans for funding from the CARES Act that New Castle County has received. The money will be distributed proportionally, based on population, to municipalities throughout the county and to volunteer fire companies. Additionally, first responders on the front lines in New Castle County will receive $10,000 in "Heroes Pay" during the crisis. To see video of the announcement, CLICK HERE .
Blue Angels, Thunderbirds fly over New Castle County
The U.S. Navy's Blue Angels and U.S. Air Force's Thunderbirds graced the skies over New Castle County as part of a flyover event on Tuesday afternoon. The jets flew over downtown New York City, Philadelphia and over Northern New Castle County as a tribute to hospital and healthcare workers fighting on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. The flight path took the jets over some of the country's most inundated hospitals fighting COVID-19.
Airport Task Force recommends non-renewal of DRBA lease
On Wednesday, April 22nd, County Executive Matt Meyer received the  recommendation  from Wilmington Airport Task Force chair Alan Levin not to renew the existing Acquisition Agreement and Ground Lease with the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) and issue a Request for Proposal from qualified and experienced airport managers and developers, including DRBA. The decision was reached unanimously by the task force. New Castle County Council must elect to renew or not renew the agreements.
Route 9 Library making face shields to fight COVID-19
In response to the critical need for Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for public health workers, Route 9 Library and Innovation Center Maker Lab maker space coordinator Jessica Glassco transformed the maker space into a production facility . Glassco, with the assistance of Delaware Division of Libraries’ Emerging Technology Specialist Nickolas Martin researched designs for masks to be used by medical professionals in the field.
