New Castle County does not tolerate sexual harassment
Chief Administrative Officer Vanessa Phillips shares her personal experience with sexual harassment in the workplace early in her career, and this administration's commitment and steps to ensure harassment has no place in your county government, in an editorial featured in today's edition of The News Journal and on DelawareOnline.com. Additionally, this administration is calling on our state legislature to make long-needed changes the Police Officer's Bill of Rights to ensure investigations of harassment and misconduct by police officers can be made public, and victims can be heard. Senator Carper, Congresswoman Blunt Rochester take COVID tests
Senator Tom Carper and Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester joined County Executive Matt Meyer to tour the county's COVID-19 testing sites at Frawley Stadium and Seeds of Greatness Ministries, they also took COVID-19 tests at the sites live on Facebook. Senator Coons will tour the Frawley Stadium site on Friday. Delaware's Congressional team secured the funding to make these tests available and over 13,000 people have been testing in the first three weeks. Public Works employee gets parade send off after 62 years on the job
Howard Stafford started with the New Castle County Department of Public Works during the Eisenhower administration, before such a department officially existed, and over a decade before the position of "County Executive" would even be created. Howard logged over 130,000 hours on the job since starting and has worked in construction support through his entire career. On Thursday morning, Howard was honored by his coworkers with a parade over dozens of Public Works vehicles past his home and a proclamation from County Executive Matt Meyer. County awards scholarships to 27 students in virtual ceremony
Last year, New Castle County launched a new scholarship program which awarded its second class of students with scholarships during a virtual ceremony on Saturday morning. Twenty-seven students received scholarships that ranged in value from $500 to $3,000 and students receiving scholarships are attending 22 different institutions of higher learning in the 2020 academic school year. Students submitted biographical and academic information, and a short essay and committee of local educators and community leaders selected the finalists from hundreds of applicants.
