NEW SECTOR PROFILE: LIFE SCIENCES/BIOTECH

The Bay Region Center of Excellence (COE) developed a sector profile for life sciences/biotech that provides a labor market snapshot of occupations within the biotechnology and biotechnology adjacent pathways. This profile outlines occupational demand, including job growth projections, annual openings by occupation, and entry-level and median wages.

The report also summarizes community college program data, such as the number of community colleges offering life sciences/biotech programs and the average number of certificates and degrees awarded by both community colleges and non-community college institutions in the Bay Region. By analyzing workforce occupational trends and educational supply, the report serves as a strategic resource for decision-makers and practitioners to inform funding proposals, develop key courses and pathways, and align programs across K–12, community colleges, and four-year institutions. Workforce professionals can also use these insights to better understand employment trends and training needs in the sector.

Key facts about the life sciences/biotech sector in the Bay Region are highlighted below.
