Beachwalker Drive Traffic Notice

Beginning January 23 through February 18, construction crews will be working on Beachwalker Drive (near the County Park entrance) to replace a damaged storm drain. Several trees may need to be removed in the process. During this time, Beachwalker Drive will be one lane, and traffic control will be present until the project is complete. The entrance to Timbers will be affected so residents should allow extra time for travel. Thank you in advance for your patience.

Sea Island Christmas Bird Count

The 9th Sea Islands Christmas Bird Count took place on January 3 as a part of the nation's longest-running community science bird project. This year's team recorded 23,127 individual birds and 156 different species. Kiawah Island recorded 8,686 birds of 126 species. Seabrook Island reported 4,636 birds of 115 species. Johns Island documented 4,329 birds of 103 species, Wadmalaw Island had 3,354 birds of 93 species, and Deveaux Bank noted 1,902 birds of 29 species. Two new species for the count were added this year!  A Dickcissel was seen at Ambrose Farms on Wadmalaw Island by Dave Eslinger and Don Jones. A pair of Mottled Ducks were seen at the new Kiawah River development on Johns Island by Jim Jordan, Chris Davies, and Matt Hill. Read more

Violation Hotline

Town code enforcement officers are now patrolling the island after hours. While their focus is primarily on short-term rental compliance, they also will respond to any ordinance violation complaints after hours. Anyone can report a violation to the 24-hour hotline at 843-259-2137 or through the online submittal form. Please take a moment and add the hotline to your contacts on your mobile phone so it's easily accessible.

Office Closure February 17 - President's Day Brown Trash & Hazardous Waste Collection: Friday, March 6. Brown trash must be placed on the curb by 7 a.m. Hazardous waste must be brought to the Municipal Center between 8 a.m.- 3 p.m. The collection of larger items such as refrigerators, washers, etc., can be arranged with Carolina Waste (843-576-1100) at an additional cost.
