E-Newsletter - February 6, 2026

As we begin Black History Month, the City of Lathrup Village would like to recognize our current elected African American leaders who have given their valuable time and energy toward making Lathrup Village the great City that it is.

Kelly Garrett, the City’s first African American Mayor, and Jalen Jennings have served honorably on City Council for the last 12 and six years, respectively.

Their leadership, integrity, and commitment have set a stellar example for all to follow.

In addition, the City would also like to recognize all of the former African American council members, current/past board members, and employees for their outstanding contributions to Lathrup Village.

The community is invited to help us celebrate Black History Month by attending the Black History Discussion Panel on Thursday, February 26th, from 6 to 9 pm in the Community Room.

We hope to see you there.

Lathrup Village Snow Fall Policy

In the event that snowfall accumulations are 3+ inches, the LVPD will call the DPS staff member on call.

Priority 1

All major arterial streets are salted and plowed. These include:

  • Sunset Blvd (Roseland to Southfield Road)
  • Santa Barbara Drive (11-Mile to Roseland Blvd)
  • Bloomfield Drive (11-Mile to 12-Mile)
  • Lathrup Blvd (Lincoln Drive to 12-Mile)
  • Rainbow Drive (11-Mile to Southfield Road)

Priority 2

When Priority 1 routes are done, crews shift to Priority 2, which includes all intersections and City Hall (during office hours and when the Community Room is booked for events).

Crews salt intersections only where the majority of stopping and turning takes place. This permits "tracking" of salt beyond the intersection, and within a few days after a snow, the area is free of ice or snow for the most part. Concentrating on intersections protects the streets and environment, also saving the taxpayers' money.

Priority 3

All LV streets are plowed but not salted. This typically includes two heavy plow trucks and one pickup truck, which is primarily tasked with intersections and dead-end streets.

Property Owner/Occupant Responsibility

Snow & Ice Removal

Property owners, occupants, or their agents are responsible for keeping sidewalks adjacent to their property clear and safe. Snow must be removed within 12 hours after snowfall ends during daylight hours, or by 6:00 p.m. the following day if snowfall ends overnight. Ice must be removed as soon as possible. If immediate removal is not possible, sand or other approved materials must be applied immediately to prevent slippery conditions, and the ice must be removed as soon as conditions allow.

What's on the ballot?

Below are City-related items that will appear on upcoming 2026 ballots.

November 2026:

Lathrup Village Library Services Millage Proposal

Shall the City of Lathrup Village, Oakland County, Michigan, be authorized to levy a new millage of 1.0 mill ($1.00 per $1,000 of taxable value), for a period of five (5) years, 2027 through 2031 inclusive, with the revenue to be used exclusively to fund the City's library services contract? If approved and levied in full, this millage is estimated to generate approximately $175,000 in the first calendar year of the levy. This millage would be subject to reduction as required by law, including the Headlee Amendment.
