By Alan Clayton, Political Analyst for Latino Journal

Latino Journal has identified 17 key races where Latinos are running for the House of Representatives and the Senate with opportunities to pick up seats without current Latino incumbents. This includes Republicans and Democrats. Here are the congressional races to watch on November 3.

Ben Ray Luján
New Mexico
Congressman Ben Ray Luján is the Democratic candidate to replace retiring U.S. Senator Tom Udall in the state of New Mexico.

Luján is competing against Republican Mark V. Ronchetti.

New Mexico has been trending Democrat and simply by the vote count as of June 4, Luján had 205,000 votes from the Democrats while the Republican total vote was 154,052.

Hispanics make up 48.5% of New Mexico's population, according to the World Atlas.

Should Luján win on November 3, he would be the fifth Hispanic sitting in the U.S. Senate in 2021, joining Senators Bob Menendez ( D-NJ)Catherine Cortez Masto ( D-NV); Ted Cruz (R-TX); and Marco Rubio (R-FL).
