Historical Tidbit:

Map of Raynham 1855
Good transportation has always been vital to Raynham’s success. Raynham was founded as an ironwork on the banks of the Two Mile River. The town’s position on the Taunton River allowed for a robust shipbuilding industry to emerge.

The 1840s saw the coming of the railroad. Routes such as the Old Colony Line connected Boston and the Southcoast cities of Fall River and New Bedford, further integrating Raynham into the regional economy.

In the present day, roads are the lifeblood that connects Raynham to the rest of the state and points beyond. The town lies at the intersection of Routes 24, 44, 104, 138, and Interstate 495. Route 138, which runs through Raynham from Tiverton, Rhode Island to Milton, Massachusetts, follows the route of the old Taunton Turnpike.

A tollhouse on Broadway Street collected a fee from those herding cattle from the Brighton stockyards to areas of Southeastern Massachusetts. Whether by river, rail, or road, Raynham has always relied on good transportation for its success.

Lily's Operation Joy Drop: Raising funds for Boston Children's Hospital Now through July 20th

Hi, My name is Lily and I am 13 years old. On May 31, 2020 I was involved in a horrible accident that has affected my perspective on life. While in my driveway I was hit by a vehicle. I spent 12 days at Children's Hospital, 5 of those days in the ICU. Although I suffered many injuries at that time, I have since then recovered due to the amazing and timely treatment by the members of the Raynham Fire Department, the Medflight Physicians, as well as the caring doctors and nurses at Boston’s Children's Hospital. (Story can be found in the 6/21/20 edition of your Raynham BuzzAround.)
For my community service project for the National Honor Society I have chosen to give back and bring smiles and joy to other kids and teens who may be spending an extensive time in the hospital as well. I know how difficult and boring it can be to be in the hospital away from your family and friends. The days seem to go by much slower, I can attest to that! I am hoping that through this project I can bring a smile to their faces and brighten their day.
Due to the Covid-19 Restrictions still in place I am raising money in order to purchase some much needed items off the Boston Children's Hospital Amazon Wish List. For every donation you will be entered into a raffle to win a sundae prize pack from Frankie & Dia's!! At the end of the fundraiser, I will post pictures of all the items I was fortunate enough to purchase and donate!
Donations in any amount can be made via cash, check, or Venmo @Lily-Moreira, the last 4 of my ph# 4701.
Thank you to all who consider making a donation!
