ACOG Hosts Legislative Power Brunch Reception for Central Oklahoma Senators, Representatives


Mark W. Sweeney, AICP, Executive Director, ACOG; Senator Brenda Stanley, SD 42, and Mayor Matt Dukes, Midwest City, gather for the ACOG Legislative Power Brunch at the Oklahoma History Center.

The Association of Central Oklahoma Governments held a legislative power brunch reception for State Senators and State Representatives on January 18. More than 80 people attended the event,  including 20 representatives and nine senators. During the event, Mark W. Sweeney, AICP, Executive Director, ACOG, outlined the agency's legislative priorities and specific bills ACOG plans to track. The first session of the 57th Legislature began February 4. Sine die is May 31.

ACOG Economic Development District 
ACOG Selects Consultant for CEDS
 
The ACOG Board of Directors, in collaboration with representatives of ACOG's  Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Committee, has selected TIP Strategies as the consultant for the CEDS update. 

The CEDS contributes to effective economic development in Central Oklahoma's towns, cities and counties through a locally-based, regionally-driven economic development planning process.

USDA Rural Economic Development Innovation Initiative Now Accepting Applications
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and four of its partners are accepting applications from rural communities and regions for technical assistance to implement economic development planning projects. The application deadline is April 5

 
Energy & Environment 
Funding for Local Government Energy Efficient Lighting Upgrades
The Oklahoma Department of Commerce (ODOC) has issued an RFP for state agencies and local governments interested in applying for energy efficient lighting upgrades to public buildings and public spaces (i.e. courthouses, jails, offices, parking facilities). Responses are due February 25.

REAP Awards 
ACOG received 33 applications for Rural Economic Action Plan grants. Available funding is $481,000. Proposed projects exceeded $1.4 million. Awards were announced at the end of December.
