Greetings, LFHS Students and Families,
We are really excited to start the 2020-2021 school year on Thursday, August 20. It’s been exciting to watch our Link Crew leaders plan and prepare to support our freshmen, our sports teams re-engaging with each other, Student to Student members welcoming new students to our district, and having three super-talented students inspire our faculty and staff on our opening day with musical selections. Our students continue to actively participate and lead, characteristics that continue to make us all feel so proud and fortunate to be a part of their lives.
As students prepare for the first day of school, we want to make sure that you know how much we are looking forward to getting started and we also want to ensure that you have easy access to information you may need for a successful start to the year — all in one place.
First Week of School, Our Remote Schedule and Planning for Labor Day
The first Freshman Advisory session of the year will take place this Thursday, August 20 at 8:10 a.m. During this live stream event, freshmen will be greeted by their Advisors and junior and senior Link Crew leaders. We will discuss the expectations for Advisory and students will receive a tutorial on how to access Schoology and their courses. A link for this live stream will be emailed to students on Wednesday, August 19. If you have trouble accessing the session or cannot locate the email, please contact Patrick Sassen (email@example.com).
On September 10, we will host a virtual Open House experience for families. We will share additional information in the upcoming weeks. To support you with your planning, here is the special schedule for that week, due to Labor Day and a contractual late start for our staff.
We will continue to communicate and share reminders associated with this information.
Accessing Classes through Schoology
Families will receive an email that will include your student’s individual schedules. In the correspondence, there will be specific directions about how to access Schoology.
Students should log into: lfhs.schoology.com and sign in to Google using their school email address and password.
- Students should click on “Courses” from the top menu and select the appropriate course. A Google Meet video conferencing link is posted at the top of each course page for students to join the live class at the scheduled time.
We recently launched THE MAP. This is a place to find the information you need to navigate the school year ahead. You’ll find links to our learning plans, health and safety protocols, technology guidance, social emotional support resources, and FAQs.
Accessing Supports and Resource Centers
Our building resource centers will continue to operate and support our students in the remote and hybrid models. The following supports and resources will continue to be available during the school day and, in some cases, before or after the school day:
- Humanities Resource Center (Social Studies and English)
- Math Resource Center
- Science Resource Center
- World Language Resource Center
- Special Education Accommodation Resource Center
- Peer Tutoring
- Executive Functioning
Live Google Meet links will be posted on our district website for students to access throughout the day. Additionally, these links will be shared with associated teachers and/or departments who offer these supports, so that they can post the links on their Schoology pages.
Attendance and Engagement
The Deans’ Office recently shared Back to School Attendance and Engagement Reminders information regarding attendance and engagement expectations for students. Please be sure to review them and reach out to the Deans with additional questions. The office will continue to assist students and families with needs associated with supporting student engagement and connection.
Symptom Survey Pre-Screening Tool
Students will need to follow a pre-screening process before attending any classes (when we shift to our e-hybrid) or events and activities at Lake Forest High School.
A COVID-19 pre-screening tool is now available to our students. The purpose of the pre-screening process is to certify that any student entering the school building for classes, or extra-curricular activities and events, is free from any symptoms associated with COVID-19. The link required will vary by grade level:
Upon completing the survey, students will receive a verification email through their school email indicating they are "Cleared to Enter."
For questions regarding this process, please contact Lane Linder (firstname.lastname@example.org), Director of Safety and Security.
Textbooks and Instructional Resources
Students who missed their designated time slot or the make-up time period for textbook pick-up should contact Donna La Vitola (email@example.com
). All remaining textbook pick-ups must be scheduled by appointment only. Thank you.
Again, we are looking forward to a successful start of the school year on Thursday. Although our distance is not ideal, we will continue to identify ways to stay connected and provide our students and families with support. Go Scouts!
