A Message From Lucinda Dohanian, Executive Director
At Laurelmead continued independence and enriched living are important goals. However, aging is aging – there is no way around that. For seniors who strive to maintain their independence as long as possible, Laurelmead’s Health Services Coordinator (HSC), Lori Hall, contributes to that end by helping the members of our community maintain their independence and quality of life. The HSC doesn’t dispense medical advice, that function is fulfilled by our residents’ personal physicians. However, the HSC assesses residents when there is a change in health status or upon a resident’s request. When necessary, Lori works with family and health professionals to address their needs. Among other things the HSC assists with coordinating home-care services, helps with obtaining personal health-aides, maintains resident health history records and, as need be, responds to emergencies. The HFC also plans health education and events on topics that are of interest to the senior population like nutrition and fitness.

Pool or Pool? Your Choice!
Life is about choices. Whether residents choose to have an impromptu game of pool with friends (not to mention the weekly ping-pong tournament), or a few invigorating laps in our indoor, heated pool – there’s always something to engage, entertain, or educate our vibrant community. There are so many choices that residents say the challenge lies in deciding what to do next. You’re invited to experience our amenities/activities first-hand by choosing something from our March activities schedule here.
Winter on the Outside Spring on the Inside
Colorful amaryllis blossoms, potted greens, and fresh cut flowers keep spring alive inside Laurelmead during the grey winter months. Very soon, yellow will be the early-spring color on the grounds. Corylopsis (Winterhazel) and Hamamelis (Witchhazel) bloom as early as March. The blossoms open and close as the temperatures change. And there will be daffodils everywhere as residents with garden plots begin to plan for what they will plant for all to enjoy.

And while our in-house gardeners are planning, Laurelmead’s maintenance crew keeps our roads and walkways sanded, salted, and well-tended. It’s actually a pleasant sound when I hear the snowplow at 6:00 a.m. or midnight, because it tells me they are on the job both day and night.
