A Message From Lucinda Dohanian, Executive Director
One of the things that makes the Laurelmead lifestyle so rewarding is our dedicated staff. They are genuinely committed to providing the best possible community for our residents, which is made evident through the quality of services they deliver every day. At our recent Resident and Staff Holiday Party, I had the pleasure of presenting “Employee Recognition Awards” for the number of years worked at Laurelmead. The longevity of our staff is quite impressive: 44 of our employees have been here for 5 years or more; of that 44, 26 have been here for 10 years or more; and of that 26, 16 have been here for 15 years or more! A statistic like this speaks for itself. I invite you to experience the Laurelmead lifestyle first-hand by calling (401) 273-9550 to schedule a tour. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me here . I look forward to hearing from you – and Happy New Year!
From the Stacks
After many years of expertly running Laurelmead’s Blackstone Library, Hazel Hollmann, a long-time resident, is passing the torch to one of our newer residents. Hazel and a small group of devoted resident-volunteers put in hours of time to make our library what it is today. Our collection boasts 3000+ books, periodicals and DVDs, which Hazel painstakingly entered into the library’s digital catalog. The offerings are frequently updated so the residents always have something new to engage them. There is also a popular book club that meets in the library monthly. Dorothy Becker, who comes to us with extensive experience as a professional librarian, has accepted the challenge of carrying on where Hazel left off. We look forward to the library continuing to be one of Laurelmead’s favorite features.
Dancing In the New Year!
The evening started off with a formal 5-course meal that was served to more than 145 people in the dining room. And then, rather than a live band as in previous years, we had a DJ who had received a list of favorites from Laurelmead residents a week before the event. The list of favorite tunes spanned 4 decades – as do our residents – so there was something for everyone. And dance we did! While some played poker, some played bingo, some sat, chatted, we relished it all in the Great Room which had been transformed into a fabulous night club with a black and white theme. A champagne toast and much good cheer among friends made the arrival of 2019 one to remember.
