What Is the We the People Program?
A Curriculum Created by the Center for Civic Education

This curriculum helps students understand the history of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights and fosters civic competence and responsibility among students in public and private schools.   It prepares teachers to meet the Nebraska State Social Studies Standards for civics, government, and American History.

What Is the James Madison Legacy Project (JMLP) Institute?

The James Madison Legacy Project is a project funded by the U.S. Department of Education under a S.E.E.D. grant given to the Center for Civic Education with the Nebraska State Bar Foundation as a sub-grantee.
What Will Institute Participants Receive?

These items are included with participation :
  • Training with Constitutional scholars and Nebraska teacher/mentors - 32 hours this summer and a day-long follow-up seminar in the fall of 2018
  • A box of 30 We the People textbooks, plus the teacher's edition and a senior high e-book
  • A $300 stipend to be paid upon completion of the Summer Institute
  • Meals, snacks, and overnight accommodations at no cost to the participant
  • Participation in an online professional learning community with support by a Nebraska mentor teacher
Participants will be expected:
  • To attend all sessions of the Institute including scholar presentations, pedagogy and mock hearing preparation.
  • To have fun and learn exciting pedagogical techniques to energize their teaching and their students' learning of the Constitution.
  • To consider use of the We the People curriculum and the mock legislative hearing in their classrooms.
  • To interact with other teachers, scholars, and mentors to enrich their teaching and learning experience.
