President's Message

Joe Alvarez
As I write the last President's message, I have a great sense of pride in serving this incredible organization for the past three years.
In typical (or true) Law Firm Vendors Association (LFVA) fashion, we hosted the first holiday event of the season at the prestigious Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak house in November. As always, the event was first class. The ambiance was fabulous, the food was simply delicious and the Yazoo Zazz band was a tribute band to the Andrew Sisters and a great reminder of our American heritage. I heard from many that this event was one of the best LFVA events ever. This was also the best attendance we ever had at a holiday party. Congratulations to the Events and Marketing committees for their great job!
At the event, I had the pleasure of introducing the new LFVA President, Craig Church from Miller's Supplies at Work. Craig is a founding member of the LFVA and is poised to continue with the great tradition of the LFVA. I leave the LFVA in great condition to the proven leadership of Craig.
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as President for the last three years and I look forward to being involved with this outstanding organization for many years to come. I wish everyone a wonderful holiday season and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2016!
Cheers,
Joe

In 2015 the LFVA showed our continued support of KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now). KEEN's mission is to empower youth with disabilities by providing free, non-competitive one-to-one programs of exercise, fitness and fun led by volunteer coaches.
Saturday evening on November 7, 2015 marked the Annual DC KeenFest gala, which was held at the Capitol Hilton.

The outstanding event included dinner, dancing and a silent auction. The KEEN athletes displayed their extraordinary talents, such as dancing, and proudly demonstrated that they are "unstoppable." This mantra is a great addition to "KEEN On Me/Lean on Me."

LFVA is proud to support these wonderful athletes and such a wonderful organization like KEEN.

2015 Holiday Party:
LFVA Blast from the Past

LFVA kicked off the holiday season, hosting their annual party on November 17th at Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse, located in the exciting CityCenterDC. As always, it was great connecting with old and new friends, enjoying good food and listening to wonderful music.
The festivities commenced in the upper level wine bar, featuring walls of glass -ncased wine bottles from Del Frisco's diverse list of more than 1,200 labels. Toy airplanes flew throughout the evening, commemorating the 84th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh inaugurating Pan Am service from Cuba to South America in the Sikorsky flying boat "American Clipper." In keeping with that era, partygoers enjoyed the musical stylings of Yazoo Zazz, an Andrews Sisters tribute band.
The food included jumbo shrimp, filet mignon sliders, crab cakes, cheese steak eggrolls, and a host of other delightful foods. VIP and Black Raspberry martinis were the signature drinks of the evening and a huge hit.
Everyone had a great time celebrating this past year and looking toward 2016 with great anticipation! Below are a few photos from the evening:

Servicing National Clients
HITT is not in the business of chasing projects; we're in the business of building relationships. Over the last two decades, HITT has established a network of offices in regions across the United States in order to better serve and work collaboratively with our clients and construction partners to build and enhance the world around us. Ranked by ENR as one of the 100 largest general contractors in the nation, HITT maintains offices in Washington, DC, Atlanta, Baltimore, Charleston, Dallas, Denver, and South Florida. Partnering with national clients outside of the Washington, DC area can create challenges that are not typical to local projects. However, with the help of constant communication and the latest improvements in technology a project anywhere in the country can run as smoothly as a project just down the road from your office.
While recently working on a client's Houston office it became apparent open discussions between the entire team would be imperative in order to ensure a successful, timely delivery to the owner. We understood decisions on time-sensitive issues could not be resolved immediately due to the decision maker for the client being located in Hong Kong. This required us to stay in constant contact with the construction manager and client to prevent schedule delays due to the differing time zones. Our team relied on the project management software PROCORE to keep all submittals and RFI's submitted, updated, and available for all team members to access. Progress meetings could almost never be attended by all parties however, with meeting minutes accessible anywhere in the world through PROCORE, our stream of communication was solidified. PROCORE provided our Superintendent the ability to have all project documents on his smartphone and tablet which ensured the products delivered to the site matched exactly what the architect and engineer approved. Thanks to this cloud-based software, our team was able to successfully complete the project while reducing the amount of printed materials on-site.
Servicing national clients outside of your local area will inevitably create challenges; therefore keeping open communication is key in maintaining a successful relationship. With our strict attention to detail, quality craftsmanship, and collaborative nature, we are true partners. We take pride in developing relationships with our clients, learning their businesses, and delivering solutions that last, both locally and nationally.

Attention Please
LFVA Welcomes New 2016 President

LFVA is excited to announce that our new President, Craig Church, will be taking over the reins in January 2016.

Craig is the Vice President of Sales at Miller's Supplies at Work, with 25 years of experience providing office and break room products to the Washington, DC legal community.

He started his career serving the legal market in 1989 with Coffee Butler Inc. and later worked with USOP, Allied Office Products and Office Depot before joining Miller's in 2007. The transition to president will come naturally to Craig who was one of the founding members of LFVA and served as the head of the Events Committee for the last two years. His vision for LFVA in 2016 includes fostering great relationships between members and the legal community, expanding the participation of events, and continuing the great work of his predecessors. Congratulations Craig and good luck in 2016!
