HCSO Newsletter #47 | Law Enforcement Appreciation Day
Message from Sheriff Ed Gonzalez:

Thursday, we celebrated Law Enforcement Appreciation Day — a day that honors the men and women who wear the badge to protect their communities and serve their residents. I appreciate your commitment to our HCSO core values and your service to our county.

Last month, HCSO District 3 Deputy D. Landry responded to a scene where two men had been shot. Deputy Landry immediately began applying a tourniquet to one of the victims, utilizing the training he received in the Basic Peace Officer Course. Immediately after, Deputy Landry applied another tourniquet to the second gunshot victim, who had been shot through the femoral artery. It is likely Deputy Landry’s quick and decisive actions saved the man’s life. Hear his story and the how the events unfolded below.

In our news round-up this week, you’ll see two stories that showcase the successful proactive response and investigations that lead to significant arrests by our deputies. District 2 deputies responded to a bank robbery where the suspect announced he had a bomb. Deputies quickly apprehended the suspect in the bank.

After obtaining a video of a man shooting his firearm in the air, HCSO investigators began their investigation into locating the suspect. Investigators would eventually arrest the suspect and charge him with discharging a firearm. Two separate incidents, but both successful resolutions due to the great work by our deputies and investigators. Our streets are safer due to their pursuit of justice.

Although we celebrate and appreciate law enforcement today, I am grateful for your service every day. God bless you, and God bless the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Tips to Outsmart Porch Pirates
HCSO in the News
"Landry, a veteran with combat experience, has a suggestion as well. “The key factor is, just breathe,” he said. “Take a deep breath, assess the situation and then go and do what you need to do to save someone’s life.”"
"A man barged in and told employees he had a gun and a bomb, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. They say he demanded $50,000. Thanks to quick action by Harris County deputies, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody."
"Celebratory gunfire is dangerous and illegal. [ H arris County Sheriff's Office] I nvestigators just arrested an adult male suspected of celebratory gunfire on New Years Eve. This arrest is not linked to any pending investigation."
