A Note from the Springfield Bar
The deadline is approaching for the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association Scholarship. We would like to make you aware of this opportunity, as well as two other scholarships for law school students.
The John D. Ashcroft, SMBA Scholarship
Deadline: March 28

The John D. Ashcroft scholarship is selected annually from applicants in their 1L or 2L year of law school. The scholarship is a onetime award of approximately $1,500 and is issued to the university in the fall of the year following the selection. The scholarship has provided over $30,000 in financial assistance to law school students since its inception. Factors that will be favorably considered include:
  • Domicile in the Southwest Missouri region
  • Ties to the Southwest Missouri region (previous residence, family)
  • An interest in practicing law in Southwest Missouri
  • Financial need

Richard E. Dorr Scholarship
Deadline: March 7

For those who have graduated from high school in Springfield or Jefferson City, the Richard E. Dorr Memorial Law Scholarship has been established by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks to provide $3,000 to second or third-year law students who are attending any accredited law school in the state. Along with the application, eligible candidates are required to attach a 500-word essay on reasons for pursuing a law degree, an official college transcript, and documentation of financial need.

Mathew W. Placzek Scholarship
Deadline: March 10

This $2,000 fund seeks Missourians who graduated high school in Greene County, including Ash Grove, Springfield, Strafford, and Willard, or attended Drury University and Missouri State University-Springfield. Funding only applies to tuition at ABA-accredited law schools for Juris Doctorate candidates.
