Economic Development to celebrate Accomplishments Dec. 7

Williston Herald - It's been another successful year for Williston Economic Development, and they're inviting the public to come celebrate with them during their Holiday Open House. This is the fifth annual Holiday Open House for the Economic Development office, and Program Development Coordinator Ann Kvande said the event is a way to thank sponsors for their generosity and assistance in putting on events throughout the year, as well as give community members insight into what the economic development office does for Williston. Williston Herald - Gov. Doug Burgum's $14.3 billion dollar budget, with $4.6 billion in ongoing general fund items, was top of mind at a legislative panel in Williston Dec. 6. The panel included Senators David Rust (R-Tioga) and Brad Bekkedahl (R-Williston), as well as Rep. Bert Anderson (R-Crosby), Patrick Hatlestad (R-Williston), Don Longumuir (R-Stanley) and David Richter (R-Williston). The event was sponsored by Western Region Economic Development.  Read More

News Release -  Williston Regional Economic Development has announced it has changed its name to Western Regional Economic Development to better reflect the group's vision, mission and membership. In addition to the name change the group has released a promotional video about the growth and development in northwestern North Dakota.

Minot Daily News - Minot native Robert Howard has found just the right chemistry in Williston for operating one of the nation's top clinical drugs testing laboratories. The president and chief executive officer of the family-run MedScan Laboratory and Advanced Drug Testing, finds himself in a unique position. "You make plans, but basically, what you do is you react to your circumstances," he said of the direction life has taken for him. "Besides, 25 years ago who would have thought that the nation would be caught in an opioid epidemic?" Read More

KEYZ Radio - Before an eager and interested audience of budding entrepreneurs and community members at Wednesday's 1 Million Cups gathering at WSC, Safari Trampoline Park Owner Jay Surani gave a progress report on the project, a true labor of love which has him working long hours to get Williston's newest amusement up and running.  Some great news for bounce enthusiasts: per Surani, the trampoline side of the venue is "95% done" with just some finishing touches remaining. Shopko announces Store Closings;

Residents seek to keep Stanley Store Open

KUMV-TV - In the wake of news that Shopko would be closing four locations in North Dakota, residents of one town are taking it upon themselves to push the company to keep their local store open. Burger King opens in Sidney, Expansion planned in Williston

Roundup - Burger King, Sidney's newest business, is now open for business at 416 N. Central at the Shops at Fox Run from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Sidney was chosen for their newest restaurant because of its high traffic location on Highway 200. There are also plans for expansion into Williston. The Sidney store currently has 55 employees but they are hiring. Read More
Teen Revives Bowling Alley in Newburg
MyNDNow.com - Just like a massive mechanical pin-setting machine, there are a lot of moving parts when you operate a small business. "It's been really good - I mean, sometimes it can be stressful," says Trent Hunskor, "but it actually is really a lot of fun to do." Hunskor is the owner and operator of Lam's Lanes on Main Street in Newburg. Last year, with the help of his parents, the 17-year-old fixed up the city's beloved 4-lane bowling alley, got up to speed on the nuts and bolts, and flipped on the neon "open" sign. Read More

The commission meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
 
12/13 ------ Winter Weather Preparedness Training
Williams County and the City of Williston are co-hosting a Winter Weather Preparedness Course on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. The event will be held in the Williams County Commission Room at 206 East Broadway.
 
12/13 ------ Business After Hours at First International Bank & Trust
Come join us for an evening of networking with fellow Chamber Members at First International and enjoy great food and drinks!
 
12/24-25 ------ City of Williston Offices Closed
The City of Williston offices will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The offices will resume regular business hours on Dec. 26.
