Welcome to Back of Beyond Books' recent acquisitions list.  While we specialize in books of the American West, these listings will run the gamut of genres.  You're receiving this list because you've either purchased from us or are a friend in the business.  If you prefer not to see these monthly postings you may easily unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of the page.

This month we feature a few works by Lawrence Clark Powell.  Lawrence Clark Powell is a name synonymous with the book world of the American Southwest. He served as a librarian, bibliographer and friend to hundreds of book dealers and collectors. His more than 100 published items often dealt with rare books, libraries, book collecting and the book trade in general. I would guess most libraries/collectors of Books on Books, contain numerous copies of his books, pamphlets, essays and broadsides.

Clark served as University Librarian at the University of California Los Angeles from 1944 to 1961, and also head librarian of the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library from 1944 until 1966. He was the first dean of the School of Library Service at UCLA. After retiring from UCLA in 1966, Powell moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1971, and served, in retirement, as Professor in Residence for nearly two decades at the University of Arizona Graduate School of Library Science. While in Tucson, Powell befriended librarian and book dealer David Laird of Books West Southwest, collaborating on many publishing projects.

This list is but a small sample of Powell's output. As a prolific writer, Lawrence Clark Powell loved working with small presses, producing many short-run limited edition items. Powell also loved signing his own books. Of the 26 items on this list, only two escaped his pen. Many of these items are available in duplicate so you may not receive the exact limitation number noted in the description. And as you'll note-most items are very affordable. Have fun browsing!

We buy collections and maintain want lists.  Books are subject to prior sale and may be held for one week.  Any item is returnable within two weeks for a full refund.  Dealer discounts and institutional billing are available for all books we offer.

Back of Beyond Books hosts an open shop in the red rock paradise of Moab, UT.  Due to the Corona Virus, we have closed our doors to browsing for the time being.  The store is staffed 7 days a week, and we are happy to help select and mail books, and assist you in any way we can. Feel free to call us at 435-259-5154 or 1-800-700-2859. Currently our hours are 9am-5pm.

Thank you,
