Referendum update
Summer 2018 plans include work on the modulars at all four elementary schools and the vestibules at Slackwood, Lawrence Middle School, Eldridge Park, and Lawrence Intermediate School. Bids were issued to general contractors for these projects. We rejected all bids as they came in too high, largely due to the cost of metal increasing 60%. We will go out to bid again and will reissue them to window contractors specifically.

Business Administrator Tom Eldridge reported this information at the June 13, 2018 Board of Education meeting.
Distracted driving demo
Historically, Lawrence High School (LHS), in conjunction with our local police department and emergency responders, holds a distracted driving demonstration the morning of the prom. The demo is strikingly realistic and is meant to encourage good decisions and safe driving.

After the program involving the cars and accident, a courtroom scene, complete with distraught "parents" of injured or deceased children and attorneys, is conducted in the LHS auditorium. We are especially appreciative of the coordinated efforts of our township police and emergency responders for providing visuals of the seriousness of distracted driving.  View a video of the June 8 demo here.
LHS young filmmakers honored at film festival
Four Lawrence High School (LHS) freshman received awards at the 2018 New Jersey Young Filmmakers Festival on June 9 at Thomas Edison National Historic Park in West Orange, NJ.

Lillian Carpinelli won 2nd place in Animation for her short animation, "Horns," while Eesha Ali, Mariya Peudova and Lily Westbrook-Shingler received an Honorable Mention in Animation for their stop motion animation "Making a Snack." Both films were shown to attendees as part of the festival. Winners were awarded a certificate along and a 2018 New Jersey Young Filmmakers Festival logo t-shirt.

The videos were produced as part of an assignment in Carly Kutsup's Intro to Videography class at LHS.

The NJ Young Filmmakers' Festival is a project of the Thomas Edison Media Arts Consortium. It provides young filmmakers, who either live in or attend school in the State of NJ, the opportunity to exhibit work and have it evaluated by prominent representatives in the field of media arts. Since its inception, the purpose of the festival has been to recognize, celebrate, and encourage emerging young talent in New Jersey, the state in which Thomas Edison first developed the motion picture.
