The New Jersey Department of Education has chosen Lawrence High School (LHS) senior Yuhui (Camelia) Wu as Chief State School Officer candidate to represent New Jersey in her application to the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Camelia was selected for this distinction, along with other select New Jersey students, on the basis of her high academic achievement and outstanding student accomplishments.

C. in June, meet various dignitaries, and receive the U.S. Presidential Scholars medallion at a White House ceremony. A taste of Mexico at LMS
Recently, Jennifer Rivera's 7th grade Spanish classes had a special visit from a parent who was born and raised in Puebla, Mexico, the town where "The Battle of Puebla" occurred between the Mexicans and the French on Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) in 1862. Mrs. Osorio shared her perspective on this holiday that is celebrated in the USA more than it is in Mexico, and addressed the misconception that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico's Independence Day, which is actually September 16. Mrs. Osorio continued her discussion about school life in Mexico, key cultural sites such as Chichen Itza, foods such as mole and chile en nogada, and traditions and special holidays, such as Semana Santa and Día de los Muertos.

Students were offered a variety of special snacks from Mexico, ranging from spicy candy to chocolates and other sweets, to try at the end of the presentation.
