Dylan Meyers and museum representatives display copies of her book at the
Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC.
Dylan Meyers and her Flat Stanley continue to spread Holocaust awareness
Two years ago, Eldridge Park 3rd grader Dylan Meyers won the Youth Holocaust/Genocide Award for the Flat Stanley book she created about the Holocaust during her participation in a Flat Stanley Project. Recently, she was invited to interview before a committee of representatives from the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, who then informed her that her book was being accepted into the museum! Copies of it will be sold there, with proceeds going to benefit the museum.

As stated on its website, the idea of The Flat Stanley Project is to connect children with other children participating in the Project by sending "flat" visitors, created by the children, through the mail (or digitally, with The Flat Stanley app). Children then talk about, track, and write about their flat character's journey and adventures.
Dylan's book:
The Amazing and Wonderful Adventures of Flat Stanley.
Flat Stanley visited Dr. Raimund Adamczyk, an archivist, in Donaueschingen, Germany.
A photo of Dylan's great grandparents, Melitta and Max Lindner, appears in the book.

Help LHS build a school in Honduras
The Students Helping Honduras (SHH) club at Lawrence High School (LHS) just surpassed its fundraising goal of raising $5,000 by December 31st and a generous donor has promised to triple that amount by donating an additional $10,000 to the club!

At $4,000, SHH was able to provide 20 additional laptop computers for students in the Villa Soleada Bilingual School in El Progreso, Honduras. If the club can raise $25,000 by the end of 2016, one of the new schools they will help build in Honduras will be painted red and white in honor of LHS, and will also display a plaque with the names of those who contributed a significant amount to the fundraisers.

You can be a part of the fundraising campaign by making an online donation here

Alyssa Katz, LHS Spanish teacher and Club Advisor for SHH, will travel to Honduras over winter break to help build the schools for which the club is fundraising. Follow her trip by visiting her blog
