Researchers interviewed 68 family physicians about their roles during COVID-19 from pre-pandemic to recovery stages. The study revealed physician’s diverse responsibilities, including staffing assessment centers, managing vulnerable populations and providing hospital support. The findings emphasize the need for improved pandemic planning that integrates and provides the resources and training to support their critical role. This study is particularly relevant for health care policy makers, medical professionals and public health planners aiming to enhance pandemic preparedness and strengthen primary care integration in future health crises.

A new Canadian guideline provides comprehensive recommendations for identifying and managing Lynch syndrome (LS), a genetic condition that increases cancer risk. Developed by 37 experts and patient partners, the guideline includes 18 consensus statements on testing protocols, treatment and advocacy to ensure equitable care across Canada. Health care providers, genetic specialists, policymakers and LS advocates should read this to align practices and improve access to standardized care for individuals with LS nationwide.

Price J, Rushton A, Ives N, Jolly K, Parmar P, Greaves C. (2025). Co-designed neck exercise (EPIC-Neck) vs usual exercise care for people with chronic non-specific neck pain: Protocol for a randomised feasibility study with process evaluation. Pilot and Feasibility Studies. 

This study tested a new exercise program (EPIC-Neck) co-designed with patients and experts to improve chronic neck pain management. Researchers compared EPIC-Neck to standard physiotherapy exercises in 45 participants, tracking outcomes through questionnaires and interviews over 6 monhts. Results will determine if a larger trial is feasible, guiding health care professionals in adopting more effective, patient-centered approaches to long-term neck pain care.
