(2025). Short-term effects of a virtual, community-based, task-oriented group exercise program compared to a waitlist control in increasing function among adults with balance and mobility limitations: Protocol for the TIMETM at Home randomized controlled trial. BMJ Open.
Can online group exercise improve balance and mobility? This research trail tests a virtual, task-oriented program for adults with movement challenges. Researchers will compare participants to a waitlist group to see if short-term gains in strength and confidence occur. Why is this important? Mobility limitations affect independence and increase fall risk. If successful, this program could make rehab more accessible for those unable to attend in-person classes. Clinicians, physiotherapists and community health planners should read this paper to learn how transform rehabilitation delivery using virtual care.

Terry AL, Meredith L, Graham J, Law E, Sibbald SL, Trusler A, Thind A. (2025). Evaluating the impact of an integrated community care model for older adults. International Journal of Integrated Care.
How can we better support seniors living in the community? This study evaluates an integrated care model program combining home and community services over a two-year period in Sarnia and Lambton County. Researchers measured outcomes like hospital visits, quality of life and patient satisfaction to assess the implementation and effect of the program. The researchers found providers overcame challenges by aligning shared goals, forming new partnerships and creating community-based initiatives. Socially isolated older adults benefited from integrated services, while a supportive network of providers and system planners enhanced capacity to meet community needs. Health administrators, family physicians and policy makers interested in reducing costs and supporting older adults should read this paper.

Dhanvantari S, Dean ED. (2025). Glucagon, the alpha cell, and potential targets for diabetes treatment. Endocrinology.
When we think about diabetes, insulin often takes center stage, but another hormone, glucagon, is stepping into the spotlight. Researchers explored how glucagon, produced by alpha cells in the pancreas plays a critical role in blood sugar regulation by doing a mini review of other research studies. Their review highlights emerging therapies aimed at modulating glucagon activity to improve glucose control. These strategies could complement existing treatments and offer new hope for people living with diabetes.

Recovering from moderate to severe traumatic brain injury is complex. Researchers examined randomized control trials on complementary and alternative medicine therapies to understand what research has been done and the effectiveness of these therapies. Their findings? Some non-pharmacological approaches show promise in improving pain, mood and overall recovery, though more high-quality randomized control trials using larger samples of the population are needed to confirm effectiveness.
