Do behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia differ between women and men? Researchers analyzed data from 174 people with Alzheimer’s dementia in long-term care and inpatient psychiatry using a clinician-rated symptom tool. They found women had more frequent and severe delusions, while men had more sleep problems, though broader symptom clusters were similar. This study matters because it may support more individualized care. Clinicians, caregivers and dementia researchers will gain insight into sex-specific symptom patterns.

Can a commonly used image-guided pain procedure be made more precise? This cadaveric study examined how injected dye spread during fluoroscopy-guided lumbar medial branch blocks, a procedure used to help identify back pain coming from facet joints. The findings suggest that even small injection volumes may spread beyond the intended target, highlighting the need for continued refinement of diagnostic pain procedures. Pain specialists, rehabilitation clinicians and researchers should read this article to better understand how anatomy and technique may affect procedure accuracy.

Can frequent video game play early in childhood help predict problematic gaming symptoms later in life? This study examined patterns of gaming from preschool through adolescence and found that earlier frequent gaming, particularly during preschool years, was linked with higher problematic gaming symptoms in adulthood. What happens when middle-aged patients who previously had hip arthroscopy later need a total hip replacement? Using Ontario health administrative data, this study found that prior hip arthroscopy was associated with a higher risk of revision surgery and greater health-care resource use after total hip arthroplasty, while short-term complication and readmission rates were similar. Orthopaedic surgeons, researchers and health system planners should read this article to better understand how earlier hip-preserving procedures may influence later joint replacement outcomes and costs.
