This year, we set lofty goals for our students to continue on the LEVEL UP journey we began last school year! In this issue we have included some of our most important student progress results to date. | |
Lawton Chiles Elementary School 2024-2025 Theme:
Level Up 2.0 - It Only Gets Better!
| |
Hello Lawton Chiles Families,
Welcome back to the new calendar year! It is always exciting when January starts because it is a fresh start. We love having our kiddos back on campus. A few reminders as we continue further into this second semester.
Student Arrival & Dismissal
The front doors open each morning at 8:15 am. Prior to this, there is not supervision in the car line. If you have students you want at school prior to 8:15, you can contact our extended day program. We saw an increase in students arriving/being dropped off as early as 7:45 am in December. Additionally, the end of our school day is 3:00 pm, except for Wednesdays where it is 2:00 pm. If you are picking students up early, it does need to occur at least 1/2 hour prior to dismissal. During that last half hour, our team is getting prepared for dismissal to make it as smooth and safe as possible for every student. If you are running late, we understand that emergencies come up. However, please keep in mind that beyond a half hour from dismissal starting, students need to be picked up. If you are struggling with that timeline, we do offer extended day after school as well. You can reach out to the front office for more information.
Testing
We wrapped up the 2024 calendar year with statewide testing and we will be kicking off the 2025 calendar year with some additional progress monitoring. Fifth graders took the 2nd progress monitoring activity for science when we returned from break, to check on their understanding of the 5th grade science curriculum. Kindergarten through 2nd Grade will be completing a mid-year DIBELS screening, checking in on phonemic awareness, phonics and reading fluency.
Here we are already into the last week of January. I hope you enjoyed the winter break and that your month has been successful so far. We are very excited about this second half of the 2024-2025 school year and appreciate our LCE families' support each and every school day.
Thank you!
Matthew Astone
Assistant Principal
