2023-2024 Theme: Level Up and CRUSH IT!
August Calendar
First Day of School
Hello Lawton Chiles Families!

We are so excited to begin another new school year with you and your students!

Morning Arrival
Doors to campus will open at 8:15 am each day. If you would like to drop off your student prior to that time, please consider enrolling your student in our before school extended day program. Please keep this in mind as you begin to drop off your students as there will not be supervision in front of the building until 8:15. Pre-Kindergarten families will be able to drive in using the Rouse Road entrance and drop off by the red bench near the entrance. All other families will use the Bloomfield entrance. While on school grounds, please remain off of cell phones while driving and remain under the signaled speed. This helps us to ensure that all of our students and families are safe during arrival.

Afternoon Dismissals
During the summer, the team at Lawton had conversations around our dismissal procedures and how we could continue to provide the safest dismissal procedures for all students. We will be making some small adjustments to dismissal this year.

Car Rider Dismissal
Each family or dismissal car will receive a number on their car rider tag this year. Each walker family will also receive a number. Students will remain in the school building during dismissal until the car tags are documented by one of our staff members. At that time, the teachers will send the student outside to await their designated car. If the driver does not have the car tag, they will be asked to park and come to the front office so that we are able to check Skyward.

Pre-Kindergarten Dismissal
Our Pre-Kindergarten students will still be dismissed from Rouse Road but families will enter the Bus Loop in order to be dismissed. This way, students remain within the fenced area outside on the Pavillion.

Pre-Kindergarten students with siblings in older grades. Families should follow the procedure of a normal car rider, rather than the Pre-Kindergarten dismissal. Pre-Kindergarten students will wait in a small group with adults inside the building until their designated car number is called and will then be brought outside by an adult or the sibling.

Walker Dismissal
Walkers will be dismissed as they have in years past. If you would like to have your 2nd through 5th grade student walk by themselves, please see Ms. Sabrina in the front office so she can document your request. You will need to bring with your ID so Ms. Sabrina can make a copy for our records.

Severe Weather Dismissal
In the event of delayed dismissal due to lightning, walkers have numbers assigned as well so that we have an easy process to dismiss students if you choose to sign them out during the delayed dismissal.

Bus Riders and Extended Day Dismissal
Bus Riders and Extended Day students will also receive family numbers in case your family changes dismissal plans. As always, please alert the front office and classroom teacher regarding dismissal changes as soon as you are able to. We ask that dismissal changes are shared prior to 2:00 pm (1:00 pm on Wednesdays). This way, we can make sure your student is where they need to be at the end of the day.

Car Rider Tags available at Meet the Teacher this Tuesday
Every family will be receiving 2 (two) car rider tags at Meet the Teacher. If your family needs additional tags, please reach out to the Front Office. If you need to have a relative or family friend pick up your child, please make sure that they are in Skyward to be allowed to pick up your student.

We know that this change may take some time to get used to, however this decision was made for the safety of all of our students here at Lawton. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you for your continued patience and awareness of safety as we begin our new school year.
