Level Up 2.0 - It Only Gets Better!
| |
Hello Lawton Chiles Families,
We are moving through our second nine weeks of school. Students have been hard at work to meet different benchmarks and we have been able to capture some student understanding using the FAST Progress Monitoring Assessments.
Some families have received progress monitoring notices alongside report cards. The purpose of these notifications was to share where some students need additional support based on state assessments. Students received substantial deficiency in reading and math notifications if they received a level 1 or 2 on last year's FAST and were below a certain percentile in the first FAST of this school year. This notice is meant to share the information with you as well as share the additional tools that we utilize to support student learning. If you have specific questions about your student’s progress, please reach out to their classroom teacher.
The months of November and December are busy times both in and out of school. Make sure to keep checking TalkingPoints and our Lawton Ledger to keep up to date on all of the exciting things happening throughout this season!
Thank you!
Matthew Astone
Assistant Principal

Parent Volunteers Needed!!
We would love to have nothing but 100% Parent Involvement with LCE. If you have not done so, please go to OCPS site and sign-up to become an ADDitions School Volunteer. Once you do that, you will need to watch a short safety video on your dashboard before we can place you to our school. This does not take much time, but please understand we ask this as part of our ongoing safe school security efforts. Please sign-up today!

We recently celebrated our September Level of Students of the Month. These students are demonstrating their ability to Level Up and CRUSH IT by collaborating, rethinking choices, using every minute, stepping up to help, and honoring differences. Our teachers and staff were excited to recognize these students and add their handprint to the new ceiling tile. These tiles are displayed in our cafeteria and our a sense of pride for our students of the month.
We were even lucky enough to have two siblings recommended for Student of the Month at the same time!
We celebrated Red Ribbon Week last week as well! We had a festive week of dressing up to remind us to stay healthy and make good choices. Red Ribbon Week is a drug and violence prevention awareness campaign that takes place every October in the United States. It is the country's longest-running and largest drug prevention and awareness program.
Our first grade students have been working hard on learning to read. To celebrate they held a first grade fashion phonics show. Students created outfits with their assigned phonics skills, and then they got to showcase all they know on the red carpet!
We celebrated our Accelerated Reader (AR) stars on campus with an AR lunch. These 4 students (pictured below) have earned more than 3 times their AR goal for the first quarter of the year. They were rewarded with a special lunch from Chipotle!
We have put a focus on reading this school year at LCE. We are celebrating words read weekly in class, as well as the top reader in each class. Last week, we were excited to have our first group of Kindergarten readers join the club. The students below took and passed their first ever AR quiz. We are so very proud of their hard work! #Level up
Just this week we had our annual Trunk or Treat event and our character parade on campus. Both were fun filled with smiles. 😀
Our Kindergarten team (below) always impresses with their costumes year after year. This year that captured the emotions from the movie Inside Out perfectly!
The office staff encourages learning by dressing as different subject composition notebooks.
Thank you to the Valencia Dancers that performed for our 1st grade class. The students enjoyed their dancing and then got to ask them questions at the end of the performance. Thank you dancers for such a wonderful time and for answering their questions!
