Data and Outcomes
This school year out School Improvement Goals are focused in reading, math and social culture: 

Reading:
As shown in the graphic above, our goal is to increase achievement from 51% to 56% in reading. Regarding learning gains, we are focused on 70% of our students achieving this goal. Lastly, we want 62% of students identified in our bottom quartile to achieve reading learning gains.

Math:
In the area of math, our goal is to increase achievement from 51% to 61%. Additionally, we are focused on 70% of students achieving math learning gains and 62% of students identified in our bottom quartile achieving math learning gains.

School Culture:
We desire to maintain a school culture focused on the needs of all students, staff and the community at Lawton Chiles. Throughout the school year we will offer multiple opportunities for family and community involvement. We know attendance is very important for student success. We desire to reduce the number of students with more than 10% absent rate.

I am Glenda L. Martinez, your Parent Engagement Liaison for Lawton Chiles Elementary. My role is to bridge the gap between school and families. I support families, school staff and build community partnerships. I am passionate about life, family and helping others.

My goal this year is to promote literacy and assist our LCE families by creating a cohesive, collaborative and coordinated system of support while building capacity in families so that all students can experience success.

OCPS Parent Academy
The OCPS Parent Academy is committed to making a sustainable impact on student success, parenting and advocacy and personal growth/wellness. Our goal is to empower, engage and educate families and caregivers by providing high-quality training sessions, resources and access to skills and services.

The OCPS Parent Academy offers district-wide, face-to-face Parent Academies, Learn Where You Live events which take place in each learning community, and virtual Lunch & Learn events on Facebook Live.

In addition to the OCPS Parent Academy events, there are monthly trainings held by the Curriculum and Digital Learning, Discipline, Exceptional Student Education, Multilingual Services, Professional Learning and Student Services departments for families.

Weekly Superintendent's Message
There's a new buzzword on school campuses this year: resiliency. This week Dr. Vazquez talks about Resiliency Standards and how this impacts teachers and students.

Food, Fun, and Fellowship
Mrs. Roscoe is prepped and ready for any rainy day dismissals we have coming up!
Ms. Bober is completing a Foundational Skills assessment one on one with her 2nd Grade students so that we can better support our students in Reading.
Ms. Gonzalez’s 2nd Grade Class is working hard on phonics and decoding by coding vowels and consonants.
Ms. Willis is working with our 2nd graders in Ms. Gonzalez's class to count and write sounds in words for Phonics practice.
Mrs. Vazquez worked in a small group for differentiated Reading support.
We have welcomed several interns from UCF onto our campus. This is Caitlin Rice, one of our awesome future educators. She is working in a small group with Mrs. Vazquez's 4th graders to support Reading.
