Lawton Chiles Elementary School 2024-2025 Theme:

Level Up 2.0 - It Only Gets Better!

Dear Mark,

Every year we review the progress from the previous year and set new learning goals. These goals are written into our yearly school improvement plan. We are very proud of the progress we made last year, increasing our Florida Department of Education school letter grade from a B to an A. We have set our goals high this year! You will see our school's goals posted around campus—please see the goals' poster at the very top of this issue.

Goal Setting and Tracking

We are also focused on student goal setting and tracking this school year. Each grade level will be working with students to track their progress towards their goals. We encourage you to ask your child their goals for this school year, and invite you to see their goal tracking at parent conferences following the first quarter.

State Testing - Results Available Online

We have recently finished our first round of state testing, the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST). The results from the first FAST progress monitoring are important because they provide a baseline our teachers will use to guide instructional decisions. We will be working hard this year to attain our school goals. Please help up by ensuring your child arrives to school on time each day.

Student scores are also available to parents online in the Skyward Family Portal. The steps for accessing student score are found below:

Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) testing results are now available in the Family Portal. Families can access these results through the Skyward Parent Portal using the District Links menu.

FAST stands for Florida Assessment of Student Thinking. The FAST test is given three times a year between kindergarten and 10th grade. Results for FAST assessments are reported within 24 hours of the student completing testing.

The How to Access Skyward Parent Portal resource is a step-by-step guide to support families with accessing assessment scores. This resource is available in multiple languages:

• English

• Spanish

• Haitian Creole

• Portuguese

The FLDOE Family Portal displays information for the most recent test students completed in a subject. This includes the test's name, the date the student finished it, the student's score on the test, and the student's achievement level for the test.

1. Families can view additional information about student results by clicking the View Detailed Report button.

2. An Individual Student Report can be generated by clicking the Download Detailed Report button. A popup window will appear, allowing you to download the Individual Student Report and access resources for understanding the report.

We encourage you to monitor your child's progress and talk to them about their school goals. If you have any further questions about testing or student results, feel free to contact your child's teacher or the front office for assistance. (Staff Directory)

Parent Volunteers Needed!!

We would love to have nothing but 100% Parent Involvement with LCE. If you have not done so, please go to OCPS site and sign-up to become an ADDitions School Volunteer. Once you do that, you will need to watch a short safety video on your dashboard before we can place you to our school. This does not take much time, but please understand we ask this as part of our ongoing safe school security efforts. Please sign-up today!

FortifyFL App:

FortifyFL is a free mobile app that allows anyone to anonymously report suspicious activity to school officials and law enforcement agencies. The app was developed after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act was passed in 2018, with input from students at the school. Thank you for installing this app today. Please remind your child that if they should ever see or hear of something suspicious or unusual this school year, please say something to any teacher or staff member right away. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Standard Response Protocol posters like this one may be found throughout the building.
