Lawton Chiles Elementary School 2024-2025 Theme:

Level Up 2.0 - It Only Gets Better!

Dear Lawton Chiles Elementary Community Member,

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving break. May you get to enjoy time with family and friends and remember all that we have to be thankful for.

After the Thanksgiving Break

As we return to school, we will enter the month of December and this will be a very busy time of year! The holiday season continues, but so does our learning. It will be important that your child attends school every day before the winter break.

As soon as we return on Monday, December 2, we will begin our second round of state testing. I want to take a moment to highlight the importance of upcoming state testing in Florida. These mid-year assessments play a crucial role in supporting your child’s academic journey.

Mid-Year Florida Dept. of Education Testing

Mid-year state testing provides valuable insights into how well students are mastering the state benchmarks. By evaluating student performance at this point in the year, our teachers can identify areas where students excel and where they may need additional support. This ensures that targeted instructional strategies can be implemented to help every student reach their full potential before the end of the school year.

How Testing Benefits Your Child:

1. Tailored Instruction: The data from these assessments helps teachers adjust their lesson plans to better meet the needs of each student.

2. Skill Reinforcement: Students receive timely feedback that reinforces key concepts and skills.

3. Progress Tracking: Families can better understand their child’s academic progress and be active partners in supporting their learning.

The testing dates are below by grade level. Please ensure your child is at school early on these days:

How You Can Support Your Child:

Encourage a Positive Mindset: Remind your child that these tests are an opportunity to show what they know and identify areas to grow.

Ensure Rest and Nutrition: A good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast can help them perform at their best. All students are eligible for a free breakfast at Lawton at 8:15 am.

Stay Involved: Talk with your child about their learning and any questions they may have.

Thank you for your continued support in making sure your child is prepared and confident. By working together, we can ensure a successful and enriching academic experience for all students.

Sincerely,

Erin Willis

Assistant Principal's Message

Hello Lawton Chiles Families,

Progress Reports for Quarter 2 will be coming home this week. This is a great time to sit down with your students and check in with their academic progress. If you need to reach out to the teachers, it is also a great time to do that. We only have three weeks left in the quarter once we return from Thanksgiving break. It is so hard to believe that this semester will be wrapping up quickly and we will be halfway through the school year.

We have some exciting field trips coming up in the month of December and in the second semester! It is important to check in with teachers to ensure they have everything they need for your students to be successful on their field trips. Check out the Field Trip forms as well as TalkingPoints to get up to date information. If you have any questions, always feel free to reach out to the school.

Thank you PTA and to our Volunteers!

We appreciate all of the PTA and volunteers that have been supporting our school already this year through our Book Fairs, Picture Days, All Pro Dads and the many other events throughout our school. Additionally, our PTA will be doing some fun events over the next few weeks. This week, they are hosting their Annual Holiday Shop! An exciting time for students to purchase presents for their family. This year, we are holding the event early in hopes to beat the holiday rush of shopping. Be on the lookout for Snow Cone days and an online Auction for PTA. All of your support helps out so much.

Thank you!

We would love to have nothing but 100% Parent Involvement with LCE. Teachers of the Month!

We are excited to continue to recognize our teachers of the month! These teachers receive kind

words from their peers, a special teacher of the month shirt, as well as a gift card to treat themselves. We are so grateful to work with some of the best at LCE!

Mrs. Mondone is always helpful; she is willing to lend a hand in the spur of a moment and steps up to help out and provides assistance whenever it is needed. Mrs. Mondone is collaborative; she thoughtfully shares ideas, materials, and responsibility for both planning and teaching. She is prepared in meetings as well as prepared each day for teaching. Mrs. Mondone is also very personable with her fellow teachers, as well as with students and their families. She has a smile on her face when greeting others and often shows she cares for others with her words.

Mrs. Faiello makes you feel like you have known her for a million years, and will always include everyone in conversation! She is able to provide helpful feedback that she discovers from each year's students’ she teaches, and shares stories from her many years of being an educator. Even though she has many years of experience, she is still open and ready when help is provided or needed. Mrs. Faiello is appreciated as she often looks out for her fellow colleagues and greets and checks in on them. Mrs. Faiello has a great personality; she is such a thoughtful coworker and friend with lots of passion and fun. She has a wonderful way of making people laugh!

----------------------

This month we celebrated the retirement of our beloved registrar, Ms. Enid Pabon.

Ms. Pabon has worked at Lawton Chiles since the school opened, 25 years ago. We celebrated with a clap out from our staff and students, as she took her last walk through the school, followed by a celebration of friends and family in the media center. We wish her the best on her next adventure!

Our VPK students were so excited for picture day, and were practicing how they wanted to smile for their first ever school picture!

Our first grade students have been working very hard on learning to read. Students are practicing reading on their own and decoding words! We are very proud of them!

Ms. Smith’s kindergarten students continue to celebrate their success on Lexia Core 5 computer reading program. Students receive a certificate to hang in the classroom as the progress to the different levels.

Ms. DelliBovi celebrated the success of the students scoring proficient on the first 5th grade science progress monitoring assessment this year. Students were rewarded with a pizza celebration. Many students were celebrated, and a few are pictured below!

We were excited to host a spirit night at one of the kids' favorite locations: Chuck E. Cheese! We had several staff members show up to support and have some fun with the games and our LCE students.

Thank you very much for reading. Happy Thanksgiving!
