The Little Boy Who Stood On the Law

The other day at the local recycling center I spotted a stack of boxes filled with discarded law books.

It was a small mountain of trashed tomes. There were elegant Restatements of the Law, finely-bound Southeastern Reporters and what appeared to be an entire set of North Carolina General Statutes. All the law you would ever need.

Lawyers Mutual Declares Dividend
Lawyers Mutual Liability Insurance Company of North Carolina has declared a policyholder dividend equal to 5.7% of the final premium paid on your 2017 policy.  This dividend, which will total nearly $1 million, will be paid at policy expiration and represent the fourteenth time since 1999 that Lawyers Mutual has declared and paid a policyholder dividend.

Having your trust account(s) audited by the North Carolina State Bar can be a scary experience for most lawyers. Even the most diligent lawyers, whose trust accounts are being audited, can be put on edge.  Your livelihood can be on the line, and your concerns are justified.   
 
At its meeting on October 26, 2017, the Ethics Committee voted to return Proposed 2017 Formal Ethics Opinion 6, regarding participation in Avvo Legal Services, to a subcommittee for further study. Why? To give the subcommittee time to consider the comments in opposition to the proposed opinion received from North Carolina lawyers.
