 Every civil litigation attorney worth their salt in our state has relied at least a handful of times on Gray Wilson's North Carolina Civil Procedure treatise to navigate the intricacies and traps of the Rules of Civil Procedure. Session Law 2019-117 goes into effect on October 1, 2019, and requires any instrument to be recorded in the Register of Deeds have a margin of at least one-half inch. [N.C. Gen. Stat.
ยง
161-14(b)(2)] This will increase the margin from a quarter-inch to a half-inch and will allow the Register to reject any instrument which violates the new margin (or charge a non-conforming document fee of $25.00). Check your forms and watch for signatures, initials or interlineations which violate the new margin requirement.

Changes in wiring instructions may not be legitimate.
Scammers have infiltrated the email accounts of realtors to send altered wiring instructions - but the same scammers could also infiltrate the emails of clients, other services providers, and even law firms in order to steal client funds.

For those of us "of a certain age," we have fond memories of spending Saturday mornings with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, as well as Bullet, Trigger, and Nellebelle. Estates and Title Opinions - Death is inevitable. A look at how title passes through the estate of a decedent, the three questions a title examiner should ask as they review an estate file in the Clerk's office, and some common issues we face in dealing with estates in the back title.
Ethically Closing Real Estate Transactions - A review and discussion of new and common issues which arise in commercial and residential closings, including: dealing with conflicts in real estate practice - representation of both buyer and seller; safeguarding client files and funds; liability for title work and disclosure of material facts.
