CARVER VOICES - JULY

SUMMER FUN AT CAMP CARVER

129 Port Chester children are enjoying an exciting and enriching summer at Camp Carver.

Over the course of this 6-week summer program, the children are actively engaged in a diverse range of activities designed to foster their physical, and social development. They participate in sports and recreation activities, take swim lessons and learn valuable water safety skills in our beautiful pool. They also experience off-site field trips, such as the recent excursion to the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium, where they marveled at the diversity of marine life.

Each day at Camp Carver is carefully crafted to provide these children with memorable experiences, new friendships, and opportunities for growth in a safe and supportive environment.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMMING FOR

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN

We are thrilled to announce that we have secured funding through the New York State Learning and Enrichment After-School Program (LEAPS) to enhance our after school offerings!

In partnership with the Port Chester-Rye Union Free School District, this funding will support our comprehensive after school program at all four elementary schools at a nominal fee for the program of $100 per student.

Carver Center is committed to serving the emerging needs of our community and looks forward to enriching the lives of our youth with engaging programs and opportunities.

SMART SCHOLARS PROGRAMMING

Carver Center is partnering with Westchester Community College and the Port Chester-Rye Union Free School District to offer college credit classes to a cohort of incoming ninth grade students. Students will have the opportunity to acquire up to 34 college credits in the Cybersecurity track over the course of their 4-years at Port Chester High School.

Carver Center is providing support services to the students in order to encourage social emotional development, career awareness, and college preparation, including the development of life skills.

RECOVERING MORE FOOD FOR OUR FAMILIES

Our Retail Recovery program is currently working with 13 retail locations, including Stop & Shop, ShopRite, Balducci's, Trader Joe's, etc., throughout Westchester County.

In May, we collected a total of 44,545 lbs. from our partner, Feeding Westchester, and over 14,000 lbs. from the retail locations.

Since the launch of this vital program in July 2022, we have recovered 171,269 lbs. of food, which is distributed to our community through our Carver Market operations. The program is partially funded for three years by a grant from Feeding America through Feeding Westchester.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: ALAN GORDON

We couldn't do our important work without the help of our dedicated group of volunteers.

We'd like to introduce you to Alan Gordon. Alan has been volunteering in the Carver Market since 2022. He helps to sort and shelve the wide variety of food that we distribute to our community on market days.

'The most gratifying part about volunteering is seeing how appreciative all of our shoppers are."

Thanks, Alan. Carver Center appreciates YOU!

COMMUNITY PARTNER: REDEMPTION COMMUNITY CHURCH

We recently hosted a Baby Product Distribution event sponsored by Redemption Community Church.

Sixty-one (61) families received a wide variety of essential baby products that will start their parenting journey on the right foot. By providing diapers and wipes, clothing, and feeding supplies, this event supported our community by giving families the resources they need for their little ones.

A heartfelt thank you to Redemption Community Church for their generous support and dedication to helping families in Port Chester.
