Join NUNU Arts and Culture Collective, Saint-Luc, CREOLE Inc, and an extensive list of partners in welcoming our special guests Vanessa Guy and Jean-Luc Toussaint from Martinique and Gabrielle Deculus, Executive Director of the NOLA Zydeco Fest to

Corridor des Arts for ESPRIT KREYOL.


Participants can attend heritage tables, a culinary event, and a healing arts workshop.

Participants can also hear a theatrical monologue by Patricia Cravins and storytelling and accordion demonstrations by the Ardoin Family. Venture out to Lafayette and see the work of Jean-Luc Toussaint at the Acadiana Center for the Arts.


Jean-Luc and Vanessa will also conduct youth mask-making workshops at L'ecole St Landry in Sunset, Teche Elementary in Cecilia, which concludes on the 16th with a youth mask-making workshop at the Baton Rouge Arts Council.


Participate and help to contribute your ideas so that we can empower key organizations in helping to make this and other Creole events in Louisiana a more frequent occurrence.

Mask-Making Workshop--Martinique Style

This workshop is led by Jean-Luc and Vanessa Guy, a team whose masks and costumes parade all the tropics including Dominica, Senegal, Mexico, and soon Louisiana. During the workshop, you will compare and contrast mask and costume practices found in both Matinique and here in Acadiana, as well as examples of masks found elsewhere in the world. The cost is $450. NUNU Members pay only $150 for the two day workshop.

Toussaint and Guy will prepare a meal using one of Martinique’s signature spices, Colombo, and add our own native Louisiana ingredient to the recipe, Louisiana gulf shrimp. Colombo is a blend of French, West and East Indian spices, combining turmeric, brown mustard seed, hot pepper, coriander, West Indian bay leaf, thyme and black peppercorn.
