Greetings!
Are you thinking about giving chocolate to your Valentine this February 14th? Think again. We aren't trying to spoil your love of chocolate. Afterall, dark chocolate has been shown to have heart benefits.
However, a recent consumers reports study measuring the level of heavy metals Cadmium and Lead in 28 chocolate bar brands revealed only 5 that were relatively low in both.
Check out the consumers report list of 5 healthiest chocolate brands below. Is your favorite chocolate bar on the list? If not, we've got some tips to help you and your loved ones clean up your chocolate game.
Fortunately, there are still ways to enjoy our love of all things chocolate :)
- Choose dark chocolate from the list below, proven to have lower lead and cadmium levels.
- Don't give kids dark chocolate. More cocoa=more risk of heavy metals. Milk chocolate is a better choice for kids and pregnant women.
- Treat chocolate as a treat, eating 1-2 times/week only. The heavy metal health risk comes with frequent exposure over time.
- Eat a diet full of seasonal fruits & veggies to keep detox organs working optimally and consider doing a detox once or twice per year.
