New Lead Paint Rules Go Into Effect on July 22

Beginning July 22, lead paint inspection and remediation will be required for residential rental properties upon tenant turnover or by July 24, 2024, if there is no tenant turnover. Inspection requirements may vary depending on the community, click here.

Remediation Requirements

If lead is found during an inspection, properties will need remediation to make them lead-safe or lead-free. In some cases, an additional inspection may be required.


This new law is not currently tied to time-of-sale requirements.

Potential First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credit


Last week, A-2246, which would create a tax credit for first-time homebuyers, passed out of the Assembly Housing Committee. NJ Realtors® has previously testified in support of this legislation. Its next stop is the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
