Lead Poisoning
  • Lead is a chemical element that is extremely toxic and can cause harm to your blood cells. It can build up in the body for a period of months or years and even a small amount of lead can cause harm to one's overall cognitive health.
  • Children are the most vulnerable to lead poisoning, specifically those under the age of six because their bodies are still developing.
  • Lead particles, lead dust, and lead-contaminated paint are the primary forms of lead poison in the home that can be located in the window seals, wall paint, floors, furniture, clothes, and more.
  • Lead poisoning symptoms among children include:
  • Development delay
  • Vomiting
  • Irritability
  • Learning difficulties
  • Loss of appetite
  • Hearing loss
  • Weight loss
  • Abdominal pain
  • Seizures
LEAD SCREENING IN RI

In Rhode Island, children are required to be screened for lead at least twice by the age of three:
Resources for Lead Abatement
  • Rhode Island Lead-Safe Program
  • The LeadSafe Homes Program provides forgivable loans to cover the costs associated with addressing lead paint problems and other unsafe conditions.

  • Lead Safe Providence Program (LSPP)
  • Lead safe providence is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant program designed to assist property owners with the cost of lead paint abatement for eligible properties.
