Leaders Update
We want to make sure LWVIL does everything we can to support the ERA ratification in Illinois.  We've seen the articles  where the League voice is valued - it is time to put them to use!

Please take action on behalf of your League and enco urage your members to do so as individuals. Here are several actions to take:

1) File a Witness Slip - Send the House Human Services Committee the message that you support SJRCA4 quickly by  submitting a witness slip before the Monday, May 7 hearing at 10 am.  These directions are printable if you need help.

2) Contact your state representatives in support - even if you think your representatives already are supporters, thank them for the support. They don't hear it enough. Use  openstates.org  to find contact details.

3) Phone Banking - Willing to make more phone calls?  The ERA Illinois coalition is looking for volunteers to help with phone banking.

Here are the details:

Phone bank for the ERA from anywhere. All you need is a computer/tablet and a phone. To get started, fill out this form  and login instructions will be sent to you.

Magnify the effect by hosting phone bank parties. Inundate a Rep who is on the fence by sending them many calls for the ERA in one night.

Need inspiration?
Our LWV Wilmette chapter made 500 calls one weekend - see their facebook post at right.

4) Attend the Rally in Springfield on May 8! This event is to show the community support for this amendment - a big crowd is the goal. There is also another opportunity to lobby your representatives, if you haven't had a chance this spring session.

The Rally begins at 12pm at the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield at the Lincoln Statue! Let's show the Illinois General Assembly how many people from across Illinois expect to see this issue ratified in the House this May!!

There are free buses being organized by the ERA Illinois coalition. If you think you can fill a bus from your area, contact organizers at  outreach@womensmarchchicago.org.

Watch the facebook event post for updates.

5) Letters to the Editor.   Here is  a template letter   that you can use to send to your local news outlets.

The ERAIllinois.org website also has tips on writing letters to the editor if you have a local flavor to include.
