The end is in sight! We are so excited for Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens as they kicked off their reopening of indoor events in time for spring break with film screenings and live music. The gardens remained open through the pandemic at reduced capacity, and the venue relied on virtual programming to share performances and events. However the historic Spanish-style home, typically open for self-guided tours, performances and art exhibits, was closed.
Casa Romantica was featured in the Los Angeles Times, Daily Pilot. To view the article, click here.

Innovation at it finest! The Friendly Center has continued to experience a high demand for programs like emergency assistance, counseling, and food support; reflecting an enduring need for OC families and seniors in poverty to receive comprehensive services. They have responded to this sustained demand by tailoring its outreach efforts and program delivery. One of these changes includes implementing a texting system that allows clients to easily register for and learn about programs. The Friendly Center is prepared for program demand to remain high through 2021 as many low-income OC residents experience a more challenging path to recovering from the pandemic’s impact on income, food security, and overall wellbeing.

Congratulations to Christine Farwell on her promotion to Chief Development Officer of the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation. Since starting her work in 2012 as Philanthropy Manager, it has been clear that the mission to end childhood cancer through research aligns with her values both personally and professionally. She considers herself fortunate to work in a field that supports the advancement of research to give families facing the unimaginable hope that their child will realize their future. Harnessing the support of private donors, corporate partners, and next-generation researchers will allow the momentum of hard-won progress to continue. May every child be able to hear the words, "But we have a cure!"

Changes are happening at CIELO! We want to wish Network member and former CEO John Hobson well as he moves on to his new role at Credera. John had a tremendous impact in building CIELO; establishing its value within the community and pushing his team to new heights.
Taking over for John is Network member, Iosefa Alofaituli. Since helping to incubate CIELO 5 years ago, Iosefa has been the Southern CA Regional Director at Opportunity Fund, the nation's largest nonprofit microlending organization for small businesses. While there, Iosefa helped lead the organization's expansion into Southern California and the national expansion of business advising/education programming. Through his experience at Opportunity Fund, Iosefa has deepened his skills and experience in community building, capital raising, and program development, and is now poised to guide CIELO to its next phase of growth.
