As 2025 winds down, I was at a loss at first how to close this year with you. I’ve told many people this year that, of the numerous crises I’ve seen in a decades-long nonprofit career (9/11, Katrina, economic downturn, COVID, and more), this year has been the most challenging for me and for many colleagues. It has felt very personal.
But as I looked back at communications over these months, I find myself reflecting on the resilience, passion, and deep commitment that each of you brings to this community. Ongoing uncertainty around a shifting funding and policy landscape necessitated that nonprofit boards and staff leaders navigate change not just reactively, but with courage and creativity.
Beyond external challenges, this year brought into stark relief the emotional and physical toll leadership takes. Conversations about burnout, from casual chats to program requests, reminded us how vital self-care and community care are for sustainability. You’ll hear more from us about this topic in Q1.
Despite all this, 2025 was also a year of connection and growth. We gathered more intentionally through networking events, peer support, and new professional development offerings. Many of you stepped up to engage, share resources, and support one another in deeply meaningful ways.
Looking toward 2026, I am hopeful. The work we’ve done together this year has laid a foundation for what comes next. Leadership Council enters 2026 with sharpened focus, strengthened relationships, and a community that refuses to give up on our value as a sector. Thank you for trusting us to walk alongside you and for all you do every day.
