Executive Director's Message - Jenny Berg
What does the future of belonging look like for you and your organization? Our Securing the Future keynote speaker, Vanessa Mason, research director at the Institute for the Future, was able to paint the picture of what that future looked like. For me one of the many takeaways from her talk on belonging is the idea of Welcome, Connect, Understand and Act.

Welcome - What is your welcome? What is your digital front door? Who is/is not welcome in your spaces?
Connect - Who is able, or who is not able, to make connections?
Understand - What is the collective understanding that can help us do things together?
Act - What can YOU choose to act upon TODAY? And what will you learn from that?

Vanessa also directed us to tools that we can use as we begin futures thinking especially in a post-pandemic world. Click Here for those tools.

Here are a few remarks from our over 340 registrants that attended:
  • "I loved the keynote speaker - I learned so much from her and about future trends. I would have loved to hear her speak more, she had so much great info to share. I also enjoyed the breakout sessions - so many great topics to choose from and the ones I attended were really well done. Thank you for organizing! We are so fortunate to have this opportunity to learn from national and local leaders."

  • "It's a great network and I appreciated getting to connect/re-connect with those I know or have worked with. I appreciated the comradery of the nonprofit force of the region."

  • "Topics were well chosen. Very good speakers. True to its intent: inspiring others regarding the future."

Thanks!

Jenny

Santa Maria Community Services
At ProKids, we recruit, train and support committed people from every walk of life to do something extraordinary: give a voice to an abused and neglected child who needs an advocate. Our passionate staff and these volunteers – who are Court Appointed Special Advocates – work with others in the child protection system to help these children move to safe, permanent, nurturing homes where they can thrive.
I became a part of ProKids in 1992 as a recent law school graduate. After serving as a volunteer, I joined the staff as an attorney and became the executive director in 1998. I’m proud that our volunteers and staff have expanded our reach over the years to serve more children in our community, giving more than 1,000 of them a powerful voice in 2020 alone. Read More
