Executive Director's Message - Beth Benson

I keep wondering when we will stop saying, “Isn’t it great to be back in person?” It’s been a delight to be out in the community recently, meeting or reconnecting with our members and other community partners. In May and June, Leadership Council was represented at in-person events with Black Achievers, Impact 100, Black Art Speaks, Leadership Cincinnati, Voices of Giving, Pro Bono Partnership, and Giving USA.
At the same time, dozens of meetings on my calendar are still (or permanently?) on Zoom, Teams, etc. We've learned that sometimes that’s just more convenient, but the reality is also that we’re not out of the woods yet. Many people are understandably unwilling to risk being in large groups in enclosed spaces. There are still many people in all of our lives who are too vulnerable to risk infecting.
What does that mean for Leadership Council going forward? It means for each program, there is more flexibility than ever. We have access to a wide variety of physical spaces across our region if an in-person event is right for the topic and the audience’s comfort level. We have technology that enables us to provide greater access to more people when travel time or being in-person might be a barrier. We welcome your input into these decisions and can’t wait to see you virtually or “live.” Check out the great upcoming programs below. Just be kind if you see me in person wearing slippers or having forgotten to do the back of my hair!

The Leadership Challenge® is an intense and interactive 3-day program that helps you tap into your personal leadership skills through a variety of activities. As you'll come to learn through The Leadership Challenge®, leadership isn't about titles. It's about the way you behave, the way you influence, and the way you inspire. Hear what past participants have said:
“Such an amazing opportunity for self-discovery! I believe the content would make the greatest impact if all my colleagues engaged in the LC.”
“The entire staff cares about the experience of their guests. I felt safe and cared for as this group of strangers became friends in leadership.”

“I strongly recommend joining a Leaders Circle. The benefits, support, confidentiality, and advice has added value to my impact in my role. We understand the demands specifically placed on programs for any nonprofit and can provide fantastic feedback. Not to mention the friendships that develop.” -- Alison Kaufman, Director of Programs, Magnified Giving
Leaders Circles are a trusted group of nonprofit peers to coach, encourage, validate, challenge, support and hold you accountable as you grow as a leader. The commitment includes monthly meetings September through May, consisting of 6-10 nonprofit leaders (matched by role/experience/org size) plus a skilled facilitator. Meetings are confidential, supportive, and create a cycle of learning, sharing, achieving, and accountability. Meetings times and locations are determined by each group. Participation fees, like Leadership Council dues, are based on organizational budget size. Click here to learn more and submit your application by July 22.
