We're Expanding Our Community Acceleration Project (CAP) Program in 2023-2024
In the three years since our founding, we have made strides towards our vision of positively transforming San Mateo County by equipping senior and emerging leaders with relationships, skills, and knowledge to realize change. To that end, our Community Acceleration Project (CAP) Program is an exciting opportunity for every one of our program participants to create tangible results and measurable outcomes as part of their 10-month immersion experience.
What are Community Acceleration Projects?
The Community Acceleration Project (CAP) Program enables participants to use their professional expertise, leadership skills, and knowledge gained in the Leadership CORPS and Emerging Leaders programs to help address complex problems in San Mateo County. Over 10 months, participants partner with San Mateo County organizations to help them research a topic and/or provide insight on a tough issue.
Launched as a pilot in our 2022-2023 Emerging Leaders Program, the CAP Program matched talented teams of participants from all sectors with SMC nonprofits to complete transformational project work that the organizations identified as essential.
What’s New?
Based on the success of this innovative pilot program, we are expanding the CAP Program to our CORPS Program participants who will partner directly with County leaders to provide cross-sector project assistance on tough issues they are addressing. Emerging Leaders will continue to work primarily with nonprofits who have applied to the CAP program to participate.
Leadership Council SMC’s 2023–2024 classes will engage in 14 Community Acceleration Projects, more than doubling the six organizations served during the 2022-2023 learning year.
