Dear Leadership Council SMC Community,

We are thrilled to announce that on June 3, 2023, we graduated our second Leadership CORPS Class and our inaugural Emerging Leaders class. This combined group of 69 amazing leaders from all sectors of San Mateo County successfully completed 10 months of rigorous work together — learning deeply about the issues we face in San Mateo County, collaborating on projects, developing their personal leadership skills, and creating trusted relationships that will endure.

“We are so happy to know you and witness what you have built together — relationships that won’t end here,” said Leadership Council SMC Co-President Kaarin Hardy as she addressed the graduates. “In addition to the friendships and trust you have created, you are graduating into a powerful network of leaders who will help you magnify your voice, achieve your goals, and elevate your organizations and communities.”

Community Acceleration Program 2023-2024 Application

Celebrating 2022-2023

What a Thrilling Year!

Our second year of programming was filled with collaboration, innovation, and a number of exciting "firsts."

Newly Elected Leaders Training

We hosted a successful “Newly Elected Leaders” Training, an innovative, day-long program for officials in San Mateo County. Former Congresswoman Jackie Speier and other influential county leaders shared practical advice from their years of experience. The success of this event has inspired us to evaluate how to expand this programming in the future.

Leadership Council Learning Events

In addition to our Leadership Immersion Programs, our Leadership Council Learning programming brings continuous learning opportunities to our Leadership Council SMC community. This year we hosted three events that advance our mission: “Education in the News,” “Hidden Rules of Class,” and “Inclusive Employment Practices.”

Extended Learning Opportunities

Extended learning opportunities create connections and impressions that bring our Immersion Programs to life. Topics for optional field trips are aligned with issues addressed during Learning Days, and offer participants the chance to dive more deeply into the subject matter.
