The Southwestern Illinois regions initiatives include a focus on our strengths in transportation/distribution logistics, manufacturing, entrepreneurship, and growth at Scott Air Force Base. State agency releases development blueprint

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) has issued a five-year economic development plan for Illinois, a proposal that sets out the state's priorities for encouraging private-sector job growth and business vitality, especially in regions with the highest poverty and unemployment.

Kirk, Durbin and Enyart say Scott AFB is finalist for National Geospacial relocation
(Illinois Business Journal, 7/2014) 

U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin, D-Ill, and Mark Kirk, R-Ill., along with U.S. Rep. Bill Enyart, D-Belleville, today announced Scott Air Force Base as one of six finalists in the relocation of the National Geospacial-Intelligence Agency's Metro East facility.

Highland leveraging super-fast Internet speeds to lure entrepreneurs from SIUE

Stakeholders of digital lab discuss economic development, job creation

AT&T looking to fill more than 130 positions in St. Louis area

AT&T is looking to fill close to 130 jobs in the St. Louis metro area. More than 70 premises technician positions are available. Premises technicians provide installation for AT&T's different services. 60 retail sales consultant positions are available at stores in the St. Louis bi-state area.

SIUE Program Receives Federal Funding

The lives of more than 7,500 children and their families in East St. Louis and other parts of St. Clair County will be improved over the next five years as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville adds additional services through it's Head Start/Early Start program. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Head Start recently awarded a five-year grant worth more than $58-million to the program.

What's on tap: Microbreweries are pouring into metro-east

A high school science teacher leaving the classroom for the taproom. Matt Flach is turning his hobby into a full-time vocation. This fall, after brewing on his own for the past eight years, the 32-year-old plans to open Recess Brewing at 307 N. Main St. in Edwardsville, his hometown. The microbrewery is named for the time that he hopes workers at the neighboring Madison County Courthouse will be spending at his establishment.

Lindenwood-Belleville announces plans for major dining hall renovations

Maryville moving towards creating TIF districts

By a unanimous vote of the Village Board on June 18, Maryville set in motion the process to create at least one Tax Increment Finance district in the village. The creation of TIF districts would signal a shift for the town of about 7,487, which nearly doubled in population from 2000 to 2010, but many still consider a bedroom community.

Granite City Library renovation project nearly complete

(Belleville News-Democrat, 7/10/2014)   
In a few weeks, residents won't have to go to Niedringhaus School to find library books anymore. In October, the staff of the Six Mile Regional Library District moved all 90,000 items from its main branch at 2001 Delmar Ave. into the former Niedringhaus Elementary School while the main branch underwent a $4.1 million renovation.
