In this Good NewsLink edition, we have several stories about Leadership Council members who expressed their opinions on steel industry challenges and NGA West relocation pending decision as well as members that were celebrated for their outstanding work and uniting our region for overall growth strategies!
The Illinois Business Journal highlighted two op-eds written by Wayne Barber and Mike Riley, Sr., on prominently discussed economic impact situations in the SWIL. Specifically, Wayne Barber expressed many reasons why NGA West relocation should be at the Scott AFB site in his op-ed titled, "St. Clair County best location, location, location for NGA." Similarly, Mike Riley, Sr., discussed the key aspects surrounding the current challenges for steel industry producers with enforcement of established trade tariffs on foreign product dumping in U. S. markets, especially impacting companies such as the U.S. Steel Granite City Works facility.  In the     oped titled, "Leaders say legislation enforcement would protect steel jobs," Mike clearly explained how enforcement of trade tariffs would enable steel industry companies to complete on a more level playing field with foreign producers.
Also, this edition spotlights the continued development of the St. Louis Regional Freightway highlighting several interviews with Mary Lamie, Executive Director of the St. Louis Regional Freightway. Mary indicated many positive developments including continued job creation, anticipated economic investment growth with the nearing completion of the Panama Canal expansion, and development of the St. Louis region as a multimodal cargo hub. SCI Engineering was recognized with a merit award for the Three Springs wetland mitigate project. Additionally, Oates Associates was recognized by t he American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois Special Achievement Award in field of transportation for the firm's work on the Veterans Honor Parkway in Highland. The Industrial market continues strong growth throughout the region, including Nutrisystem opening a new frozen warehouse in Troy, Illinois, bringing new jobs to the community. Deb Frazier, CEO of the Realtor Association of Southwestern Illinois, indicated that 2015 was an outstanding year for real estate sales and 2016 is expected to be an even better year. In other news, congratulations to Holland Foundation and St. Elizabeth's Hospital for all of their continuous giving in Southwestern Illinois.
