Speculative Construction: Out-of-town investors place big bet on Gateway
(St. Louis Business Journal, 5/16/14)

Toronto-based real estate investment adviser Bentall Kennedy and Dallas-based Trammell Crow Co. are planning to build the largest speculative industrial building the St. Louis metro area has ever seen. Construction is expected to begin later this year on the estimated $40 million, 1.2 million-square-foot industrial building at Gateway Commerce Center near Edwardsville. (Read More)



Construction underway on most planned levee improvements

The St. Louis Metro East Levee Issues Alliance, a regional coalition that supports the residents and businesses in the American Bottom whose lives and livelihoods depend on the timely completion of the Metro East levee improvements, is celebrating the ramping up of work to make that goal a reality. Several projects are currently underway, coming in under budget and estimated to be completed on schedule within the timeframe required for completion of the improvements and reaccreditation by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) sometime in 2015.(Read More)



SWIC receiving $401,089 Americorps grant

Alton Memorial earns gold status from Red Cross

(Advantage News, 5/14 )

Alton Memorial Hospital has reached gold level status in the Red Cross' Champions for Life campaign. The Missouri-Illinois Blood Services Region of the Red Cross presented a plaque to AMH on May 20.

Roxana board awards $7.9 million bid for water plant expansion

The village of Roxana's $7.9 million water treatment plant expansion project is set to get underway next month. The village's Board of Trustees unanimously voted to award the bid for the expansion project to Contegra Construction of Edwardsville at Monday's board meeting.

 Experts discuss immigration as economic development tool

As business owners around the River Bend seek ways to sustainably build the area's economy, numbers are naturally taken into consideration. "Our goal is to be the fastest-growing major U.S. metropolitan area for immigration by 2020," said Anna Peterson Crosslin, president and CEO of the International Institute of St. Louis. "We must aim to be a cultural mosaic, a place that is truly welcoming."

Ameren to upgrade area system

Edwardsville residents can expect to see improvements to the town's energy delivery system starting this year.  Ameren Illinois is investing more than $1.5 million in electric infrastructure upgrades in town as part of a five-year, $3.5 billion plan to improve the dependability and performance of electric and natural gas delivery throughout central and southern Illinois.

U.S. Reps. Rodney Davis, R-Ill., and Joe Garcia, D-Fla., recently introduced The Empowering Encore Entrepreneurs Act of 2014, a bipartisan bill aimed at offering assistance to entrepreneurs over the age of 50.(Read More)



Illinois American Water provides grants for watershed initiatives

Six watershed initiatives across the state will receive funding through Illinois American Water Co.'s 2014 Environmental Grant Program. The recipients will receive a share of grant funds totaling $15,825 for community projects that improve, restore or protect watersheds.
