STRATEGIC PLAN - IMPERATIVE 2
 
Leadership matters. It is important that we continuously attend to the growth and development of our leaders. This group must always be prepared for the next step, and that is why you find leadership development highlighted in the second imperative of our new five-year strategic plan. This imperative speaks directly to the leadership expectations for professional growth and commits to fund such activities, for there should not be stagnation at the top of any organization. Specifically, this imperative addresses the Board of Directors, Head of School, Directors, Principals, Department Heads, Lead Teachers and more.
 
The first goal speaks directly to the continual development of the Head of School so that the overall organizational leader does not grow stagnate and is regularly apprised of the latest in information, research, and trends. It is easy to get wrapped up in day-to-day activities and neglect personal development. This imperative will keep me accountable to grow and improve so that I can invest in other leaders and provide a pattern that all leaders can follow.
 
The next goal addresses our board members who are blessed with the burden of oversight and big-picture decision making for WCA. This oversight includes matters of fiscal responsibility, educational philosophy, Biblical worldview, employment law and practices, and more. A responsible board member must be open to a process of intentional preparation and development through regular meetings and readings as well as planned sessions. Westminster is strategically committing to continue to carefully select and vet candidates for board membership and then to plan and fund growth activities for the board to prepare them to represent all of our constituents well. As Westminster has a wide array of families (socioeconomic status, ethnicity, jobs, ages, locations, etc.), our Board must be prepared to represent them all while also keeping Westminster in a strong spiritual, academic, and fiscal position.

Finally, the last goal under this imperative excites me and is important in any large organization. With this goal we are committing to develop a system whereby people from within our midst can be trained, developed, and prepared for future leadership opportunities. These opportunities might include department chair positions, lead teacher positions, director or Principal positions, or just to be better prepared to be a representative or committee member. The preparation and skill development that is necessary for success in a leadership position must be intentional and well-planned.
