2024 Joint Clergy Retreat with Dr. Amy Alfred

April 28-30

The 2024 Joint Clergy Retreat will take place April 28-30 at the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel in Celoron, New York. Registration will open at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, and the program will begin with dinner at 6 p.m. The retreat will conclude on Tuesday, April 30, following lunch.

Titled "Taking the lead on YOU," this year's program will be a time for renewing our spirits through the lenses of resilience, reconnection with passions, communication, collaboration and play.

Dr. Amy Alfred will lead the retreat with assistance from the Rev. Tony Pompa, partnership canon for congregational support. Alfred is a licensed psychologist with more than 30 years of experience who works with clergy and lay leaders to strengthen their organizations as well as themselves, and has particularly examined what she calls "the three C's" — communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution — as vehicles for promoting meaningful change, deepening conversation, and enhancing greater understanding, insight, and productivity.

Register online by April 5. Hotel rooms will be assigned after registration.

The Rev. Jessica Frederick Speaks with The Post-Journal About "My Name is Rachel Corrie"

On March 15 and 16 at 7 p.m., St. Luke's, Jamestown's theatre group, the Winged Ox Players, will present the one-woman play, “My Name is Rachel Corrie” at the Robert H. Jackson Center. The Rev. Jessica Frederick, who leads the production, spoke with The Post-Journal about the play as well as her time in the West Bank doing human rights documentation and advocacy work with Community Peacemaker Teams.

Frederick told The Post-Journal, "What I love about this play is that it is rooted in the fundamental humanity of Rachel and the people she encounters. Her articulation of human dignity in the face of overwhelming destruction makes, as Corrie states, 'Bravery seem more possible.'”

Corrie was an American diarist, activist, and human rights advocate who traveled to, and died in, Gaza in 2003. March 15 marks the twenty-first anniversary of Corrie's death. The script is composed of excerpts from Rachel’s diaries and emails, edited by actor Alan Rickman and journalist Katharine Viner.

Each performance will include a talkback session. This staging of “My Name is Rachel Corrie” is directed by Loren Masanqué. The show is being performed with no charge and reservations are not required.
