Leadership Restructuring Reinforces Commitment to

Student-Focused Learning

Boise, ID -- 01/31/2024 -- Boise School District is proud to announce a restructuring of our District’s leadership to better serve student academic needs and improve the educational experience and opportunities for all learners, while providing a safe, secure and responsive culture of learning. 

Led by incoming Superintendent Lisa Roberts, the new superintendency will reflect the importance teaching, learning, academics and operations play in the ability to successfully deliver an outstanding comprehensive educational experience for all students. In addition, the restructuring will support our District’s core belief that each and every student will learn when provided the proper resources, guidance and support.

Jodie Mills - Deputy Superintendent of Learning

Ms. Jodie Mills will serve in the new position of Deputy Superintendent of Learning, a role that will replace the Chief Academic Officer position that Ms. Mills currently holds.


As the Boise School District’s Deputy Superintendent of Learning, Ms. Mills will work with our District’s Executive Leadership Council to provide leadership and support to teachers, principals, and other school leaders to ensure that our District provides a high-quality comprehensive educational experience for each and every student. 


Ms. Mills will play a key leadership role in implementing, managing and monitoring our District’s Student-Focused Learning Model, which is founded on the core belief that each and every student can and will learn when provided adequate opportunities, support and resources. Specifically, Ms. Mills will oversee the areas of Academics, Teaching & Learning, Student Supports, Student Services, School Leadership, as well as work on developing our District’s Graduate Profile. 


In addition, Ms. Mills will be responsible for managing budgets, allocating resources, and evaluating the effectiveness of academic programs.

Nick Smith - Deputy Superintendent of Operations

Mr. Nick Smith will serve in the new position of Deputy Superintendent of Operations. Mr. Smith brings a wealth of demonstrated and relevant executive leadership experience to the position, having served Idaho’s public schools in a variety of capacities over the past two decades, including as the current Area Director for the Boise Quadrant, and as a school principal and Human Resources Director for the Boise School District from 2013 - 2023.


As Deputy Superintendent of Operations, Mr. Smith will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our Boise School District, including Facilities & Operations, Transportation, Human Resources, Food Service, Safety & Security, Information Technology, and Athletics/Activities. Mr. Smith will work closely with other members of our Executive Leadership Council to ensure that our District is running smoothly and efficiently to ensure that the needs of our students, staff and community are being met. In addition, he will play a critical role in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to the operations of our District. The Deputy Superintendent of Operations will also serve on our District's Negotiations Team. Overall, the Deputy Superintendent of Operations will play a critical role in ensuring that our District is able to provide a safe and supportive environment for students and staff.
