In a little more than a week we will gather Pastors and Lay Leaders together in Greenville for what is known as our Leadership Summit. It is the name that replaced the standard name of Annual Conference 25 years ago.

Why is the word “leadership” highlighted in this manner?  Psalm 78:72 reads, "And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them."

This verse highlights the importance of leadership that is characterized by both integrity and skill. The role of a Godly leader is to guide and inspire those under their care towards a common goal, and this cannot be achieved without possessing these qualities. A leader with integrity builds trust and respect among their followers, while a leader with skill can make wise decisions and lead effectively. The combination of these two qualities makes for a strong and effective leader who God will use to bring out the best in those they lead.

Leadership matters because it sets the tone for the success or failure of any group or organization. A Godly leader with integrity and skill can create a culture of spiritual excellence where everyone is working towards the same God directed goal with a joyful level of dedication and commitment. On the other hand, a leader who lacks these qualities can create a toxic environment that breeds mistrust and negativity, leading to low morale and poor performance and spiritual decline. Ultimately, the success of any church depends on the quality of its God-directed leadership, and Psalm 78:72 reminds us of the importance of integrity and skill in effective leadership.

At our Leadership Summit, you will hear challenging and spiritually engaging messages from Bishop Cowart, special guest speaker Rev. Chris Ritter, and myself.  We also will fellowship, celebrate Communion, worship, honor pastors and lay leaders, and ordain new pastors in our conference. This event will assist with shepherding your people with integrity of heart and skillful hands!

On the Adventure with you,

Supt. Ben

Supt. Tolly spoke at The Wednesday Experience at Greenville University on March 8.
